Maple Tree

Louisville, Ky

2010

10' X 3'

Painted, Leaded, Bevelled Glass.

The homeowner was looking to disguise the view of a couple mammoth air conditioners. The window sat in a stairwell and needed to let in a decent amount of light. Using textured clear glasses I was able to obscure the offending air conditioners by applying multiple layers of glass paint (each layer of paint fired in a kiln before applying the next layer) to get different shades and then applying thin layers of glass enamel paint for color (with each layer of enamel fired into the glass before the next application of paint). As the window was in the stairway I had to put the leaf clusters at (or about) eye level to block the view. The result was a lifelike glowing maple tree full of depth.
